Change of governments in Greece and Italy affects SGC’s implementation - minister

Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Natig Aliyev has today received Robin Dunnigan, the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy in the Department of State's Bureau of Energy Resources.

According to ministry, highly appreciating US support to the Southern Gas Corridor, the minister Aliyev informed about the current situation and difficulties on the project.

The minister noted that global political and economic processes, change of governments in Greece and Italy affects the project’s implementation: “The ministerial meeting within the Advisory Board aims to discuss these problems and solve them”.

Aliyev also said the works on completion of Shahdeniz Stage 2 and SCPX are approaching to final, but several difficulties are observed in TAP in Italy: “All segments of the Southern Gas Corridor should be completed timely to be successful. The Advisory Board will contribute to increase of efforts all sides responsible for implementation of this project”.

In turn, Robin Dunnigan also stressed that she considers the Southern Gas Corridor as a priority of energy security.

They also exchanged views on other directions of Azerbaijan-US energy cooperation.
